During the Japanese colonial period, Taiwan's brick kilns were not yet mechanized and the output of red bricks was very small. It was not until 1913 that the Taiwan Governor-General's Office established the Taiwan Renga and introduced mechanical circulation kilns, and red bricks began to be mass-produced.

At that time, the red bricks produced by this company were divided into four grades, the best of which was "TR brick". This type of brick is made using a dry brick press and has the word "TR" engraved on the surface of the brick, which stands for "Taiwan Renga" (the Japanese pronunciation of Taiwan Renga). Because of its excellent quality, TR bricks were widely used in various official buildings and were high-end building materials at the time.
